Book of the Bible
The Gospel of Luke -- Luke has an uncanny ability to portray Jesus as the one who completely turns the world upside-down. His love for the poor and oppressed in Luke is inspiring and daunting. In fact, it is said that 1 of every 6 ½ verses in Luke deal with the poor and oppressed.
Fiction Book
Mark Gimenez " The Color of Law "--If this were a movie, it would be rated PG-13, but it draws you into a story of an attorney who had it all--money, a family, high paying job, every material possession one could imagine, and a membership at a prestigious country club. However, after a judge handed him a case to defend a single mother who was a drug addict, he came in contact with a girl that changed his life.
Non-fiction Book
NT Wright, " Following Jesus "--His ability to balance scholarship and practicality is proven in this short book. The first sentence of the book says it all, "The longer you look at Jesus, the more you will want to serve him in his world. That is, of course, if it's the real Jesus you're looking at."
