David began attending the Central church during his freshman year at Rice University in 1966. A year later he met K at the home of Terry & Beverly Koonce during Central's welcome party for college students. Shortly thereafter, they began working together in the church's Saturday morning outreach program to the children of the Drew Street Mission. In 1971, having graduated from Rice, they were married at the Bering Drive church-Central's building was being remodeled. Except for the three years when David was in the US Army, they have worshipped and served first with the Central church and then, after the merger in 1983, with Southwest Central.
Having no children of their own, David and K devoted themselves to loving, teaching, guiding, mentoring, and having fun with a generation of children of this church. They have been blessed to sit in classes taught by their former students and to see "their kids" bringing their own children to worship. K is a student of Psalms, has taught them at Rockcleft, and continues to work on that study as a means to incorporate prayer into daily life. David puts his gifts for administration and helping to full use. He has been on the Administrative & Legal and Finance Teams for many years. Both teach adult classes as there is need and opportunity. Professionally, David is a chemical and environmental engineer, a partner in a consulting firm. K's professional skills, as a librarian and a writer/editor, are used in service projects for the church.
David is known for his oft repeated, but never old, message that God loves us as a good and faithful father loves his children; He is not keeping score to condemn us; He is willing and waiting to welcome and receive us; and we know this because of the great price He paid to show that the steadfast love of the Lord never ceases and His mercies never come to an end.
