Studying the Bible and worshipping God with an open mind and heart best characterizes Larry Watson. “I believe that God works in greater ways than we let him,” he says. “We refuse to let God bless us the way he can if we would let him out of the box. Let’s don’t be as limiting to God.”
Larry and Martha met at the Central church in the 1970s while they were in the Central Singles group, and have been active members of Southwest Central since the merger in 1983. They have two children, Daniel and Stephanie. Larry’s commitment to this church precluded him from looking outside of Houston when he found himself looking for a job in the late 1990s after many years in the shipping business with one company.
Martha is a leader in the Children’s Ministry Team, directing VBS, is active in the Ladies Bible Class, and has been involved in mission trips. Larry leads singing on occasion, regularly teaches on Sunday mornings in an adult Bible Class, has coordinated the Chain Gang Bike Ride for the Impact congregation, and heads the Adult Ministry Team.
The Adult Ministry Team is responsible for coordinating the Sunday morning adult Bible classes, and for instigating the current Care Groups. Larry is the primary organizer for the Care Groups, and makes lesson plans each month for all of the Care Group leaders. He has taught in the Sunday morning Textual Study class for about ten years, and is well known for his in-depth studies, and literary analysis. His leadership has led that class through an eight-year study of every book in the Bible, which is now on its second round.
